As part of the Kenya International Film Festival theme nights, the Kenya Film Commission hosted the ‘Kenya Night’ which was also used as a platform to premier the first Riverwood 20 film ‘KEN’.

‘KEN’ which was shot entirely on location in Kenya is a low budget vernacular film which borrows from the Riverwood style of filming. originating in Kenya. The project combined the making of local content films, on the job training for film makers and creating a marketing platform for our advertisers under the umbrella of an entrepreneurial driven sustainable business model.

Working with the Kenya Film Commission, Earthbox East Africa, Kenya Film Works and Third Force Association, Riverwood 20 seeks to create twenty low budget commercial movies along the lines of the already existing Riverwood model for distribution in Kenya, East Africa and abroad.
Kenya Film Works has entered the Riverwood distribution gateway by partnering with local distributors, filmmakers and talent.
Among those who attended the official launch was Dr. Bitange Ndemo, The PS Ministry of Information and Communication, Mr. Jimna Mbaru the Managing Director of Dyer and Blair Investment Bank, the jury from the Kenya International film Festival, the cast and crew, Charles Liburd the producer of the movie Ken, Jessica the executive producer, film makers and other invited guests.

In his speech, Dr. Ndemo encouraged Kenyan film makers to venture more in the production of low budget movies and have as many as possible local movies in the spirit of local content development.
During the question and answer session, moderated by MC Mwaniki Mageria, the audience got to learn from the cast and crew that the movie was shot on a budget of Kshs. 600,000 and all the cast and crew members were paid as opposed to the past experiences in the industry where their payments were delayed.
SHORT SYNOPSIS OF KEN
Ken and Emmanuel are two lowly and hapless waiters working in a hotel dreaming of bigger and better things. In Emmanuel’s case, he dreams of becoming a wrestler. In Ken’s case he dreams of getting together with a radio DJ called Ng’endo.
If only they knew how their dreams were about to come through and with what consequences!
When Ken returns from his village, where he pretends to be a successful Bank Manager; his taxi bumps into Ng’endo’s car. In the coming days, Ken has to spend his time dogging Ng’endo whilst carrying out his waiting duties.
It all depends on Emmanuel’s wrestling skills. How can his tough abilities rescue Ken’s desperate attempt at love?
